Pre-Internship Targets

Pre-internship is a time to try new things and work on developing important skills with the guidance of your co-operating teacher. Here you can find the five main targets or skills I focused on developing and improving during pre-internship.

1) Provide students with details and succinct instructions

Steps to achieve target (date collection sheet page 1 and page 2):

  • Gain students’ attention before giving instructions
  • Give the instructions step-by-step and have the students complete each step before receiving the next instruction
  • Have students repeat the instruction

2) Organization for small group work

Steps to achieve target (data collection sheet):

  • Create partners/groups ahead of time
  • Have areas foe groups to work in
  • Explain task and hand out materials ahead of task

3) Asking open-ended questions

Steps to achieve target (data collection sheet):

  • Ask questions that could have a variety of correct answers and provoke student’s deeper thinking

4) Circulating the Classroom

Steps to achieve target (data collection sheet)

  • Have prepared questions for each group to assist in quickly moving from group to group
  • Ensure that I visit every group during the work period

5) Have an engaging and meaning full set that is well linked to the rest of the lesson

Steps to achieve the target (data collection sheet):

  • Get students thinking about what they are going to be asked to do latter in the lesson
